Quick Answer: A cheap dab rig works fine if it’s borosilicate glass with a 14mm joint and a small chamber. The rig is the cheap part: ours start at $29.99. A complete setup with a banger, cap and pearls runs $74.99 in a bundle, plus a torch. Skip gas-station glass.
A cheap dab rig can hit clean and smooth, but the rig is only part of the bill. Here’s what to buy, what to skip and what a working setup really costs.
Quick brief
What should you know before you buy?
Four facts that keep a cheap rig from turning into wasted money.
- The rig is the cheap part. Our rigs start at $29.99, but you still need a banger, a carb cap and a torch.
- Most of our rigs ship with a 14mm bowl, not a banger. The 5.5″ Dual Recycler Dab Rig is the exception.
- Match the joint and the angle. Most dab rigs take a 14mm male quartz banger at 90°.
- A bundle comes with the parts matched. The Mini Dab Rig Starter Bundle is $74.99 with the banger, pearls and cap in the box.
The basics
What makes a cheap dab rig good enough?
Four specs matter more than the price tag.
A cheap dab rig is good enough when it’s borosilicate glass, takes a standard 14mm banger, has a small chamber and keeps the perc simple. Get those right and the price won’t matter much.
- Borosilicate glass. Boro handles the heat of dabbing. Thin no-name glass is where cheap goes wrong, and it isn’t worth the savings.
- A 14mm joint. It’s the most common size, so bangers and caps are easy to find. The rig’s joint is female, and the banger is male.
- A small chamber. You want the vapor going more or less straight to your mouth. In a big chamber it goes stale before you pull it.
- A simple perc. One built-in perc or a recycler is plenty on a mini rig. You don’t need a stack of percs at this price.
Thick glass is a preference, not a requirement. Some people like the heft, and some like a lighter piece. Buy it because you like it, not because you think you need it.

Real cost
How much does a cheap dab rig setup really cost?
The rig price is only the first line on the receipt.
Plan on about $75 for a complete cheap setup, plus a torch. A bare $29.99 rig still needs a banger, a cap and pearls, so the bundle price is the honest number to compare.
| Setup | Price | What you get |
|---|---|---|
| Jammer Mini Rig | $29.99 | Rig and 14mm bowl, no banger |
| Dual Recycler Dab Rig | $49.99 | Rig and banger, add a cap |
| Starter Bundle | $74.99 | Rig, flat top banger, pearls, cap |
| Slurper Bundle | $74.99 | Rig, slurper, marble, pillar |
| Mini Bell Rig plus Terp Slurper Kit | $89.98 | Rig, slurper, 5-piece set |
Both bundles land at $74.99, whether you’d rather run a flat top or a slurper. Every row still needs a torch, and that’s the part people forget. Our best torch for dabs guide covers what to look for.
The kit
What else do you need besides the rig?
Four parts turn a bare rig into a working setup.
Besides the rig, you need a quartz banger, a carb cap, pearls or a slurper set, and a torch. A dab tool makes loading easier. The cap isn’t optional, since it seals the banger so the vapor goes through the rig.
- A 14mm male banger at 90°. A rig’s joint stands vertical, so a 90° banger sits level. Our quartz banger guide breaks down the styles, and the quartz bangers page has them all.
- A carb cap. Without one, air leaks in through the top of the banger and you don’t get a proper pull. The Full Color Directional Spinner Cap is $14.99 and fits 22mm to 25mm flat tops.
- Pearls or a slurper set. Pearls spin in a flat top banger and keep the wax moving, so it doesn’t burn in one spot. Quartz Terp Pearls run $6.99 to $7.99 a pair.
- A dab tool and a torch. The Stainless Steel Dab Tool is $7.99. A butane torch heats the banger, and you can’t skip it.
Here’s the cycle once it’s all in hand:
- Seat the banger in the rig’s joint, the same way you’d seat a bowl.
- Torch the banger, then let it cool to around 475°F. Our best temperature for dabs guide covers the timing.
- Drop in your pearls, then the dab.
- Cap it and pull. The pearls spin and move the wax as you draw.

Bundle math
Why buy a bundle instead of the pieces?
Two $74.99 kits against piecing it together.
The Mini Dab Rig Starter Bundle is $74.99 with the banger, pearls and cap already matched. A Mini Bell Rig and a Terp Slurper Kit bought separately come to $89.98, and that’s a slurper setup, not the same kit.
The Starter Bundle pairs the Mini Bell Rig with a 14/90 flat top quartz banger, two 6mm quartz pearls and a spinner cap. The Mini Dab Rig Slurper Bundle is also $74.99. It swaps in a 14/90 slurper, a 22mm marble and a quartz pillar.
Piecing it together makes sense when you already own part of the kit. Got a banger that fits? Then a $29.99 rig is all you’ll need.
Want to pick your own slurper? The Roots Glass Full Weld Terp Slurper Kit is $54.99 with a 5-piece slurper set. Our terp slurper banger guide explains how they run, and the rest of our bundle deals are worth a look too.
Skip these
What should you skip?
Where a cheap rig turns into money wasted.
Skip no-name gas-station glass, brand-name markup and any rig whose joint doesn’t match your banger. Each one costs you more than the few dollars you saved.
- Gas-station glass. It’s super thin and breaks easily. Water can pull into your mouth when you hit it.
- Paying for a logo. Plenty of named brands charge for the name and the fancy box, not better glass.
- A mismatched joint. A 10mm banger won’t seat in a 14mm rig. A 45° banger sits cocked on a rig, because a rig’s joint stands vertical.
- A big chamber. On a rig, a bigger chamber lets the vapor go stale before you pull it.
From the Counter — Where cheap goes wrong
The cheap glass I’d steer anyone away from is gas-station glass. It’s no-name, super thin, and it can’t take normal handling. Nobody should buy it on purpose. It’s what you end up with when you don’t know what to look for and grab the cheapest thing in sight.
The other trap runs the opposite way. A lot of named brands overcharge for the logo and the fancy box, not better glass. We skip both. Our glass is functional, not ornate, and it’s priced fair. The glass works. That’s the pitch.
Glass vs electric
Is a glass rig cheaper than an e-rig?
A glass setup costs a fraction of an electric one.
Yes. A complete glass setup runs about $75 plus a torch, while the Focus V CARTA SPORT Smart E-Rig Kit is $235. If the budget is the whole point, glass wins.
An e-rig isn’t a glass dab rig. It heats the dab with a battery-powered atomizer instead of a torched banger. Puffco leads that field, and Focus V and Dr. Dabber sit a step behind it.
The trade is simple. A glass rig hits heavier per dab and costs less. An e-rig heats up fast and skips the torch, but it doesn’t smack you the same way. Our dab pen vs dab rig breakdown and the e-rigs page cover the electric side.
Stretch it
How do you keep a cheap dab setup cheap?
A few habits that stop you from buying twice.
Buy the bundle, match every part to the 14mm joint, and keep the rig for concentrates only. Those habits keep you from paying for the same piece twice.
- Keep flower out of the rig. A dab rig is built for concentrates, so keep flower in a bong or pipe.
- Season a new banger. Our guide on how to season a banger covers the first heat-up.
- Clean it often. Our dab rig cleaning guide shows how to do it with stuff you already have.
My pick
Which cheap dab rig would I actually buy?
A straight recommendation for a first cheap setup.
I’d buy the Mini Dab Rig Starter Bundle at $74.99. It’s the Mini Bell Rig with the banger, pearls and spinner cap already matched, so you just add a torch and a dab tool.
Already own a banger that fits? Grab the Roots Glass 6″ Jammer Mini Rig at $29.99. Want the banger in the box for under $50? Get the 5.5″ Dual Recycler Dab Rig. If you’d like to compare more shapes first, browse all our dab rigs.
Common questions
Frequently Asked Questions
What people ask before they buy a cheap rig.
How much should a dab rig cost?
A glass dab rig can cost as little as $29.99. A complete setup with a quartz banger, carb cap and pearls runs about $75 in a bundle, plus a torch. Spending more mostly buys looks, thicker glass and fancier percs.
What are some good dab rigs under $50?
The Roots Glass 6 inch Jammer and Warped Mini Rigs are $29.99, the Mini Bell Rig is $34.99, the two 6 inch THICK rigs are $44.99, and the 5.5 inch Dual Recycler Dab Rig is $49.99 with a 14mm quartz banger included.
What are some cheap dab rigs under $20?
We don’t carry a glass dab rig under $20. Ours start at $29.99. Under $20, a nectar collector is the move: the 4 inch Dab Straw Nectar Collector is $11.99 and needs a torch, but no banger.
What is the best dab rig for a beginner?
A small rig with the banger and cap already matched. The Mini Dab Rig Starter Bundle is $74.99 and includes a Mini Bell Rig, a 14/90 flat top quartz banger, two 6mm quartz pearls and a spinner cap. Add a torch and a dab tool.
What can I use instead of a dab rig?
A nectar collector or dab straw is the cheapest glass option. You heat the tip, touch it to the wax and pull. An e-rig is the electric option, but it costs far more. Our dab straw guide covers how they work.
How do you dab on a budget?
Buy a bundle instead of piecing parts together, match the banger to the rig’s 14mm joint at 90 degrees, and keep the rig for concentrates only so it stays clean. A $74.99 bundle plus a torch covers everything you need.
