Clipper Lighters

Clipper lighters — refillable, removable flint, designed to last. The lighter regular smokers eventually settle on after burning through dozens of disposables. Multiple designs, fair prices.

Why Clippers

A Clipper is a Bic-priced lighter built like a Zippo. Refillable with butane, removable flint that doubles as a poker, and a body that keeps working long after disposables would have died.

Why smokers love them

  • The flint pops out — you can use it as a poker for clearing bowls or packing joints.
  • The butane refills easily.
  • The flame is steady.
  • They cost about $3.

The trade-off

Clipper flames are smaller than Bics. For lighting joints, perfect. For lighting big bowls, you might need to hold longer.

FAQ

How do you refill a Clipper?

Hold the lighter upside down, press the butane can nozzle into the bottom valve, hold for 5–10 seconds. Don’t try to use immediately — let it sit for a minute so liquid butane evaporates from the body.

Why use a Clipper instead of a Bic?

Refillable (Bics are disposable), the flint comes out as a poker, and they’re built more solidly. Cost about the same upfront; way cheaper over time.

Are Clippers windproof?

Not as windproof as a torch, but the flame is small and protected enough that moderate wind doesn’t blow it out. For really windy outdoor use, look at jet flame torches.

How long does a refill last?

Daily smokers refill about every 2–3 weeks depending on use. A can of butane refills a Clipper 5–6 times.

Clipper sizes

  • Standard Clipper — full size, refillable, removable flint. The original.
  • Mini Clipper — smaller body, same flame size, fits in a watch pocket.
  • Metal Clipper — metal body instead of plastic. Heavier, looks fancier.

Refill and flint replacement

Refilling: hold lighter upside down, press butane can nozzle into bottom valve, hold 5–10 seconds. Wait one minute before using.

Replacing flint: pop the lighter top off, replace the small flint stick at the bottom. Flints last 2–3 weeks of daily use.

Why daily smokers prefer Clippers

  • Refillable = cheaper over time than disposables.
  • Removable flint = doubles as a poker for clearing bowls.
  • Steady flame even when fuel runs low (Bics start sputtering early).
  • Wide variety of designs (graphics, colors, special editions).

How do I refill a Clipper without a leak?

Hold steady, press for 5–10 seconds, release, wait. Don’t fill more than once per refill session — overfilling causes butane to leak. If the lighter feels cold/wet, butane spilled — let it dry for 5 minutes.

Are Mini Clippers as good as full-size?

Same flame, smaller body. Holds slightly less butane (fewer lights per refill). Otherwise identical.

Why won’t my Clipper light?

Either out of fuel (refill), bad flint (replace), or wet from a recent refill (wait 5 minutes for evaporation).

I really like this rig but I was expecting it to be a little bigger. The description said 9 inches but I would say it’s more 6 inch range . I attached photo with it next to my 8 inch bubbler to show size. Most of my rigs are 4 to 6 inch range. I just wanted something a bit bigger. If was looking for something in the 6 inch range. This would be perfect. I would recommend downsizing to a 10 mm adapter. It’s not a necessity but I feel it makes the draw smoother but it’s a great rig for $100 price point. It seems to be built well and have enough to be used with an Enail.

Fast shipping and great packaging of the piece. The rig hits exactly as I hoped, with the tornado effect. The glass itself could be thicker in general. But mostly for further peace of mind. For this model, I wish it were the same height as the "double wu" rig. Worth it and great purchase experience. Especially the email customer service!
