What is a mini dab rig?
A mini dab rig is a water rig built for concentrates that stands roughly 5 to 7 inches tall, with a small chamber and a low water line so smoke reaches you fast and still tastes like the dab you took. Most shops put the range at 4 to 8 inches. Everything we stock lands between 5″ and 7″, and the bulk of it sits at 6″.
Size is the whole point. GRAV’s own mini rig guide explains the mechanism plainly: the smoke in a smaller rig has less distance to cover from the banger to the mouthpiece, so it doesn’t have time to go stale. 420 Science makes the same argument from the other direction — a small rig has less surface area for your dab to stick to on the way out. Less glass to coat, less flavor left behind.

There’s a real trade here, and it runs in one direction: shorter tastes better and runs warmer, taller runs cooler and tastes duller. Under 5″ you start fighting splashback and the water line gets fussy. Past 7″ you’ve given up the flavor advantage you bought a small rig for, and you may as well run a full-size dab rig. Which perc matters in a rig this small?
In a mini dab rig the perc is doing all the cooling work, because you don’t have height or water volume to fall back on — so a simple perc that actually bubbles beats a complicated one that chokes. This is where small rigs get ruined. Stack too much diffusion into a 6″ chamber and you get drag, splashback, and a piece that’s a nightmare to clean.

Does a mini dab rig come with a banger?
Usually not — and this is the single most expensive surprise in the category. Almost every mini dab rig we sell ships with a 14mm bowl, which is for flower. To dab, you swap that bowl for a quartz banger, and the banger is a separate purchase.
This isn’t a Roots quirk. GRAV’s guide says the same thing about their own lineup: their Milk Carton Bubbler, Coffee Mug Bubbler, Spherical Pocket Bubbler, Mini Beaker, and Mini Round Base all ship with a bowl, and you add a banger to turn the piece into a mini rig. Their words: mini bubblers “can become dab rigs with the addition of a banger.”
And the banger isn’t the end of it. You need a carb cap too — without one, air leaks in over the top of the banger and you never get a proper pull. A cap isn’t a nice-to-have on a dab setup; it’s the difference between a dab and a puddle.
So price the setup, not the rig:
- Every mini rig we stock that lists a joint uses a 14mm female joint, so fitment is one less thing to think about.
- À la carte: our bangers start at $24.99, carb caps at $14.99. That’s about $40 on top of the rig.

That means a $29.99 rig is realistically an $85 setup with a kit, or about $70 if you piece it together. Still fair for something you’ll use every day. Just know it going in, because nobody else on this page will tell you. These are lifetime units sold through rootsglass.com, pulled 2026-07-14. Where we compare two pieces, we picked ones we listed on the same day, so shelf time isn’t doing the work. It’s a small sample and it only controls for shelf time — not shape, photos, or where a piece sits on a category page. Read it as what happened here, not as a law.
- Cheapest didn’t win: we listed the 7” Clear Can Bubbler ($49.99) and the 6” Warped Mini Rig ($29.99) on the same day, 2024-12-27. The Clear Can has sold 20. The Warped Mini Rig has sold 3. Same shelf time, $20 dearer, roughly 7 to 1 the other way.
- Function pulled ahead: we listed six mini rigs on the same day, 2025-07-11. Two of them moved: the 5.5” Dual Recycler ($49.99) has sold 7 and the 6” THICK Tree Perc ($44.99) has sold 5. The other four — a bell rig, a circ perc, a wig wag decal, and a $119.99 opal recycler — have sold 1, 1, 2 and 1. Every mini rig page sells the same two things: it’s cheap, and it fits in your bag. Both are true and neither is why you’d keep one. On our own shelf the cheapest piece isn’t the one that moves — the $49.99 bubbler outsold the $29.99 rig about 7 to 1 over an identical window. And “cheap” is doing a lot of lying here, because the sticker isn’t the setup. A $29.99 rig ships with a bowl, not a banger. It doesn’t dab anything until you add quartz and a carb cap — call it $40 more, or $54.99 for a kit. That’s the number nobody prints next to the rig. Buy on flavor and on a perc you’ll actually clean, and price the whole setup from the start.
How do you keep it clean?
A small chamber is the easiest thing in your collection to keep clean, as long as you don’t let it sit. Less water and less glass means a shot of iso and a shake does what a full teardown does on a big piece.
Change the water every session or two. Dabs leave reclaim, and reclaim in a small chamber turns the flavor advantage you paid for into a liability fast. Keep the water line low — just covering the perc slits. Overfilling a rig this small is the quickest way to pull water into your mouth, and it mutes flavor without buying you real filtration.
For the banger itself, a carb cap lets you dab lower and leave less behind, and running a sane dab temperature does more for cleanup than any solvent. Cold dabs puddle. Puddles turn into scrubbing.
