Temperature Reader

The real Dab Rite IR thermometer and Terpometer dab temp reader — not alternatives, the actual brand-name tools serious dabbers use. Point, read, dab at exactly the right temp every time. The upgrade nobody regrets.

Why a temp reader changes the game

Dabbing without a temp reader is guesswork. You torch the banger, count seconds in your head, hope it’s right. With a Dab Rite or Terpometer, you point at the banger, get an exact temp reading, and drop the dab at the moment you want.

The difference shows up in flavor and waste — low-temp dabs preserve terpenes (the flavor part) while medium-temp dabs vaporize completely without burning.

What we carry

  • Dab Rite IR thermometer — the original infrared dab temp gun. Quick reads, accurate, the gold standard.
  • Terpometer — temp probe-style reader designed specifically for dabbing temperatures. Slightly different form factor, same accuracy goal.

The right temp range

  • 400–500°F (low-temp) — maximum flavor, slower vaporization.
  • 500–600°F (medium) — balanced flavor and clouds.
  • 600°F+ (high-temp) — chazzes the banger, burns terps, harsh hits.

FAQ

Do I really need a dab temperature reader?

Not strictly required, but if you’re serious about flavor, yes. Counting seconds works once you know your banger, but a reader is faster and more reliable.

What temperature should I dab at?

450–550°F is the sweet spot for most concentrates. Lower for high-terp stuff (rosin, live resin), higher for budder and shatter.

Dab Rite vs. Terpometer — which should I get?

Dab Rite is contactless (IR gun) — point and read. Terpometer is a probe — sits on the banger and reads via contact. Both are accurate. Dab Rite is faster; Terpometer is sometimes more precise on thick bangers.

How do I use an IR temp reader on a banger?

Heat the banger normally, let it start cooling, point the IR reader at the side of the bucket (not the bottom — quartz bottoms reflect IR). The side wall gives you the most accurate reading.

How to use an IR temp gun on a banger

  1. Heat the banger normally with your butane torch.
  2. Stop heating, hold the IR gun about 3–4 inches from the banger.
  3. Aim at the side wall of the banger, not the bottom (quartz bottoms reflect IR and give wrong readings).
  4. Watch the temperature drop — drop the dab when it hits your target temp.

Target temp ranges

  • Live resin / rosin / high-terp: 450–520°F (low-temp, max flavor).
  • Shatter / budder / mid-tier: 520–580°F (medium, balanced).
  • Distillate / cheap concentrate: 580–650°F (high, full vaporization).
  • Above 650°F: too hot — burns terps, harsh hits, chazzes banger.

Dab Rite vs. Terpometer comparison

  • Dab Rite — IR contactless gun. Fast reads, point and shoot, doesn’t touch banger.
  • Terpometer — probe-style. Sits on the banger, reads via direct contact. Slightly more accurate on thick bangers.

Most regular dabbers find the Dab Rite’s contactless read faster and easier. The Terpometer is more precise for very thick or unusual bangers.

Why do my temp readings vary?

IR readings vary based on angle, distance, banger material, and surface (dirty bangers read inconsistently). Take 2–3 reads at the same angle for accuracy.

Is a temp reader necessary?

Not strictly — counting seconds works once you know your banger. But a reader removes guesswork and is faster than the count-and-test approach for new bangers or new concentrates.

Will a Dab Rite work on Puffco?

No — Puffco devices have their own internal temp control. The Dab Rite is for traditional bangers and torch-heated setups.

I really like this rig but I was expecting it to be a little bigger. The description said 9 inches but I would say it’s more 6 inch range . I attached photo with it next to my 8 inch bubbler to show size. Most of my rigs are 4 to 6 inch range. I just wanted something a bit bigger. If was looking for something in the 6 inch range. This would be perfect. I would recommend downsizing to a 10 mm adapter. It’s not a necessity but I feel it makes the draw smoother but it’s a great rig for $100 price point. It seems to be built well and have enough to be used with an Enail.

Fast shipping and great packaging of the piece. The rig hits exactly as I hoped, with the tornado effect. The glass itself could be thicker in general. But mostly for further peace of mind. For this model, I wish it were the same height as the "double wu" rig. Worth it and great purchase experience. Especially the email customer service!
