Quick Answer: A spinner carb cap is a directional cap. Angled holes or slits push air into the banger in a circle, which spins terp pearls and keeps the oil moving so it doesn’t sit in one spot. On a 25mm flat-top banger, our pick is the Directional Top Hat Vortex Spinner Cap at $19.99. Run it with two pearls.
A spinner carb cap is the cap that makes terp pearls spin. Here’s how it works, which bangers it fits, how it stacks up against a bubble cap, and which one to buy.
Quick brief
What should you know before you buy?
Four facts that settle most spinner cap questions.
- Spinner and directional mean the same thing. Both send air into the banger at an angle so it swirls.
- It’s made for flat-top bangers. The cap has to sit flat on the rim to seal.
- Pearls are what you see spin. The cap moves the air. Pearls ride the vortex and drag the oil around.
- Fit matters more than the name. Check the listed fit against your banger before you buy.
The basics
What is a spinner carb cap?
Start here if you’ve only ever used a plain cap.
A spinner carb cap is a glass cap with angled holes or slits that send air into your banger at an angle. The air swirls into a vortex, which spins terp pearls and pushes melted oil around the bucket.
MJ Arsenal puts it simply: every cap restricts airflow, which builds pressure inside the banger and lets you dab at a lower temperature without losing the hit. A spinner cap does that job and adds the swirl.
MJ Arsenal’s own spinner cap uses four directional holes to build that vortex. White Rhino describes theirs the same way: a spinner design that creates a vortex of airflow for even heat. The glass itself doesn’t move on the banger. It’s the air that spins.
That swirl is the point. MJ Arsenal’s explanation: oil that sits in one spot makes hot spots, and a vortex spreads it across the heated surface instead of letting it pool. If you’re new to caps in general, our carb cap guide covers every style, and the full lineup sits in our carb caps section.

Which spinner carb caps should you shop?
Four spinner caps for flat-top quartz bangers, each with its fit on the listing.
For most flat-top bangers, any spinner carb cap on this list will spin pearls. The Directional Vortex Spinner Cap is the cheapest at $16.99. The other three are $19.99 and differ mostly in shape and color.
The comparison
How is a spinner cap different from a bubble cap?
The three cap styles you’ll see, side by side.
A spinner carb cap moves the air for you. A bubble cap has no fixed swirl, so you tilt and turn it yourself to steer the airflow. A plain flat cap seals the banger and does nothing else.
| Cap style | How the air moves | Best for |
|---|---|---|
| Spinner / directional | Fixed holes swirl it | Pearls, hands-off dabs |
| Bubble | You tilt and turn it | Control, pearls optional |
| Flat or solid | No swirl, just a seal | Basic low-temp dabs |
MJ Arsenal frames it the same way. A bubble cap gives you manual control, and it takes a little technique to keep the airflow steady. A spinner cap does it automatically as you inhale. Neither’s wrong. It’s down to whether you’d rather steer.
Bubble caps still spin pearls if you work them. Our Full Color Bubble Cap at $14.99 fits 22mm to 25mm flat tops and lists directional airflow and pearl use on the listing. If you’d rather not think about it mid-pull, go spinner.
Fitment
Which banger does a spinner carb cap fit?
The part that decides whether the cap works at all.
A spinner carb cap fits flat-top quartz bangers. It has to sit flat on the rim and seal, so check the fit on the listing against your banger before you buy.
MJ Arsenal’s advice is to use a flat top, not an angled or beveled top, so the cap seals and the pearls keep spinning. That matches our own listings. The Directional Vortex Spinner Cap and the Slitted Ball Directional Spinner Cap both list “most flat-top bangers” as the fit.
Here’s what changes the answer:
- Turbine and blender bangers. Our Turbine and XL Blender banger listings say both work with spinner caps. Their kits ship with a marble on top, though, and our 25mm Auto Spinner Marble and Terp Pearls Set is made for them. Check the banger’s listing for which it takes.
- Puffco Peak and Peak Pro. Use a cap made for the Peak. The Slitted Directional Spinner Puffco Peak Carb Cap is made for the Peak and Peak Pro.
- Dr. Dabber Switch 2. It takes its own cap. Our UFO Opal Joystick Carb Cap lists the Switch 2 fit.

Pearls
Do you need terp pearls with a spinner cap?
What actually spins, and what size to drop in.
You don’t need pearls for a spinner carb cap to work. You need them to see the spin. The cap swirls the air either way, but pearls ride that vortex and drag the oil around with them.
Size the pearls to the bucket. Our Quartz Terp Pearls 2 Pack listing puts it plainly: 3mm and 4mm for a Puffco Peak and smaller quartz wells, 5mm and 6mm for standard and XL bangers.
The easiest start is a matched set. The Full Weld 25mm Flat Top Banger Kit at $54.99 comes with a spinner cap and two terp pearls, so the sizes already work together.
Our terp pearls guide covers quartz, ruby and sapphire if you want to go further, and the full range is in terp pearls and pillars.
The method
How do you use a spinner carb cap?
Five steps, in order.
Heat the banger, let it cool to your dab temperature, drop the pearls and the dab in, set the spinner carb cap on top, and pull slow and steady.
- Heat the banger. Torch it the way you normally would.
- Let it cool. Wait for your target temperature. Our best temperature for dabs guide covers how long, and why low temp tastes better.
- Drop in the pearls and the dab. Pearls first, then the concentrate.
- Cap it. Set the spinner carb cap flat on the rim so it seals.
- Pull slow. MJ Arsenal’s instruction is slow, steady inhales, and the cap swirls the air as you draw.
From the Counter — what I actually run
Here’s my setup: the Directional Top Hat Vortex Spinner Cap on a 25mm Roots banger. That’s the banger most of these caps fit. On a slurper, you’d run a marble or a three-piece slurper set instead.
A cap isn’t optional. Without one, air leaks in through the top of the banger and you don’t get a proper pull.
Spinner and directional are the same thing; the name’s mostly marketing. Either way, the airflow keeps the pearls moving in the wax so it doesn’t burn in one spot.
The disagreement
Why is “spinner” just a label?
Where shopping by name sends people the wrong way.
Spinner, directional, vortex and cyclone caps all do the same job. What separates two caps is fit and build, not the word on the listing.
Why most guides get this wrong: the name isn’t the mechanism
Listings sell a spinner carb cap like it’s a step up from a directional one. It isn’t. MJ Arsenal’s own spinner cap page calls the product a directional carb cap, and our caps carry both words in the name.
Skip the label and check two things. Does it fit your banger’s opening and sit flat on the rim? And does it come from a seller who lists the fit? A cap that doesn’t seal won’t spin anything.
Shop pearls and kits
Which pearls and kits go with a spinner cap?
Pearls and one ready-matched kit to pair with your cap.
Pick pearls sized to your banger, or grab the flat top kit that already includes a spinner cap and two pearls. Either way, it’s worth checking the size against your bucket first.

Common questions
Frequently Asked Questions
What people ask about spinner carb caps.
Do I need a spinner cap for terp pearls?
You need some kind of directional airflow to spin them. A spinner cap does it for you as you inhale. A bubble cap can move pearls too, but you have to tilt and turn it yourself. A plain flat cap seals the banger and won’t spin them.
What is the difference between a spinner cap and a directional cap?
Nothing that matters. Both use angled holes or slits to swirl the air inside the banger. MJ Arsenal’s own spinner cap page calls the product a directional carb cap. Pick on fit, not on the name.
Are carb caps universal?
No. A spinner carb cap is made for flat-top quartz bangers and has to sit flat on the rim to seal. Our turbine and blender banger listings say they take spinner caps, but their kits ship with a marble, so check that banger’s listing. A Puffco Peak or a Dr. Dabber Switch 2 needs a cap made for it.
Do you really need a carb cap?
Yes. Without a cap, air leaks in through the top of the banger and you don’t get a proper pull. The cap also restricts airflow and holds pressure in the banger, which lets the dab vaporize at a lower temperature.
What size terp pearls go with a spinner cap?
Match the pearl to the banger. Our Quartz Terp Pearls listing puts 5mm and 6mm in standard and XL bangers, and 3mm and 4mm in a Puffco Peak or other smaller wells.
Does a spinner carb cap work on a Puffco Peak?
Use a cap made for the Peak. Our Slitted Directional Spinner Puffco Peak Carb Cap is made for the Peak and Peak Pro.
