Terp pearls are small, heat-resistant spheres, usually 3mm to 6mm, that sit inside your quartz banger while you dab. When you pull through a directional or spinner carb cap, the airflow makes them spin. The spin spreads your concentrate across the hot quartz instead of letting it pool.
That’s the whole idea. Not magic, just heat distribution. You’ll also see them called dab pearls, terp balls or banger beads. Same thing.
They exist because of pooling. Drop a dab on a flat banger floor and it collects in one spot. That spot gets the most heat while the rest barely gets touched.

Do terp pearls actually work?
Yes, with one condition that’s easy to miss.
Yes. Terp pearls work when the rest of the setup is already right: a clean banger, a cap that moves air, and a sensible temperature. They make a good dab more even. They can’t rescue a dirty banger or a flat cap. Fix those first and pearls are a cheap upgrade.

How do you use terp pearls?
Five steps. The cap is the step that makes it work.
Drop one or two pearls into a clean banger, heat it, and let it cool to your temperature. Add your dab, then cover it with a directional or spinner carb cap while you inhale slowly. The airflow from the cap is what spins the pearls. You’ll see them move and hear them rattle.
- Drop them in. One or two pearls in a clean banger.
- Heat the banger. Quartz pearls can go in before you heat. Some people add ruby or sapphire right after the heat-up instead. Either works, as long as they’re hot when the dab goes in.
- Wait for your temperature. Let the banger cool to where you like to dab. Pearls shine at lower temps.
- Add the dab. Drop it in with your dab tool.
- Cap and pull slow. A directional or spinner cap aims the air at the floor of the banger and sets the pearls spinning. Pull slow and steady.

Why do most terp pearl guides get this wrong?
The upgrade that matters isn’t the pearl.
Most guides upsell the pearl. The cap does the work.
A lot of terp pearl guides spend their time ranking materials and treat ruby as the upgrade you need. But a pearl only works if something spins it, and that something is your carb cap.
A $6.99 quartz pair under a directional cap will spin. Ruby pearls under a flat cap won’t. If your first $25 has to cover both, get the $16.99 directional cap and a $6.99 quartz pair.
Upkeep
How do you clean terp pearls?
A quick swab after each dab, a soak when they get sticky.
Swab the banger and the pearls with a cotton swab right after each dab, while everything’s still warm. For a deeper clean, soak the cooled pearls in isopropyl alcohol, rinse, and dry them before the next session. Residue is what stops pearls from spinning.
- Swab warm, not hot. Warm residue wipes right off. Cold residue needs a soak.
- Let them cool before any soak. A sudden temperature change can crack a pearl, and isopropyl is flammable.
- Grab them with a tool. A pearl grabber or tweezers beats burned fingers.
- Store them in iso if you like. Some people keep pearls in a small jar of iso between sessions. Rinse and dry them first.
