Gravity Bongs

Gravity bongs are a different kind of bong: water and air pressure fill a chamber with smoke, and you take it in one big pull. It is a different kind of session, and plenty of people had good times with a gravity bong back in the day and still do. Ours is clear glass, 10 inches tall, and the 14mm bowl ships with it.

What a gravity bong is

A gravity bong (people also say GB, grav or geeb) uses water and air pressure to pull smoke into a chamber, so you are not pulling it through the piece yourself. You fill the chamber first, then take the whole thing in one go.

How gravity bongs work

Two pieces, one nested inside the other, with water in the outer one. The bowl sits on the inner piece. Raising the inner piece out of the water drops the pressure inside it, which draws air through the lit bowl and fills the chamber with smoke.

  1. Fill the outer piece with water and seat the bowl on the inner piece.
  2. Light the bowl and lift the inner piece slowly so the chamber fills.
  3. Pull the bowl, then push the inner piece back down into the water.
  4. The water pushes the smoke up and out of the open top, and you inhale from there.

What to look for

  • Bowl size. 14mm is the everyday standard. Ours uses 14mm and the bowl is included. Check the size before you buy a spare.
  • Glass, not a plastic bottle. Homemade versions use plastic bottles. A glass gravity bong does not warp near the flame and it cleans up properly.
  • Number of pieces. Two main pieces plus a bowl. A rubber ring at the base gives ours a tight fit.

Gravity Bongs FAQ

What is the difference between a bucket and a waterfall gravity bong?

A bucket style uses two pieces: a smaller one that sits inside a larger one filled with water. A waterfall style is a single bottle with a small hole in the bottom, and the smoke is drawn in as the water drains out.

What size bowl does a gravity bong use?

Ours uses a 14mm bowl, and the bowl ships with it. If you want a spare or a different style, match the size and the joint gender. Our bong bowl sizes guide covers both, and bowls and downstems has the spares.

Are gravity bongs worth it?

Depends what you want from a session. A gravity bong is not a replacement for your daily bong. It is one big pull per fill, with a little routine around the lift and the clear. If you want a different kind of session, it is worth owning. If you would rather sip and keep going, a regular bong fits better.

Is a gravity bong better than a regular bong?

They do different jobs, so we will not rank them. A regular bong lets you pull at your own pace. A gravity bong is load, lift, clear and done. Pick the one that matches how you like to smoke.

How do I clean a gravity bong?

The same way you clean any glass piece. Separate the inner and outer pieces, rinse them warm, then shake 91% isopropyl alcohol with coarse salt inside each one and rinse until clear. Full steps are in our how to clean a bong guide.
